Lil’ Art Block: Classes

Something new is happening in my world: teaching classes! I never planned to teach- I honestly didn’t think there would be enough interest to fill a class, never-mind more than one class. Last night, I taught my mason jar word-of-the-year class for the second time. I have now taught it to over 50 people! What?! When I said yes to teaching this class, I hoped and prayed I would have 4 people interested. Boy, did the Lord have bigger plans for me! (He always does, doesn’t He?) I have three more classes scheduled in February and March! Let me tell you all about them:

Next up: Boutique Flower on Thursday, February 16, 2017 6:30-8:30 @ Eth’tique in Stewartville, MN.  Tickets are $25/ person; get them here: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/amber-engelhardt-12429656778

Here’s the details:

Who’s up for a Ladies Night Out?! Friends.Art.Shopping.Wine.Dessert. Yes, please.

For this Lil’ Art Block you’ll make a cheerful flower in your choice of pink, peach or light purple with big, over-flowing leaves in a gray vase. Patterned paper will come pre-painted, as will the wood blocks. Each artist will first cut their design by hand and next I’ll teach a water-color technique to create the black outline. We’ll adhere the pieces to the block using mod-podge and then seal the project with a proctective coat of matte varnish.

We’ll have plently of time for socializing, dessert and definitely some feel-good, ethical shopping!

{The cost of the lil’ Art Block includes wine and dessert}

In this mixed-media project we will use multiple mediums to design a heart with wings, personalized with your choice of words. You will adhere your design onto a salvaged wood block, creating a small piece of art that I call Lil’ Art Blocks. Block sizes will vary, but are approximately 5″x4.5″.

All supplies will be provided. Wood blocks and patterned paper will be pre-painted (in the interest of time). We will also use stencils, scissors, and mod-podge and paint pens.  I will teach you how to create the black outline and watercolor-distressed look using a Stabilo pencil, paint brush and water. Finally, we will seal the block with matte varnish. Each artist will choose their heart and wing color and words. Examples of word choices are: Brave Heart, Open Heart, Take Flight, Love Story, Happy Place, Forever & Always, Joyful Heart, Faithful Heart, Patient Heart.

This project is for all levels: the experienced artist to the wanna-be artist and everything in between. You are sure to leave with a project you can be proud of!

Once again, the Lord has led me on an unexpected, yet fruitful path and this verse from Jeremiah 29:11 sums it up perfectly: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
